Lizzie Induni - Painting
Lizzie Induni studied at Dartington College of Arts where she specialised in photography and painting. Her work is developed from drawing and interpreting patterns in landscapes, and painted using traditional limewash paints.
Whist studying at Dartington College, Lizzie lived in a boat house on the River Dart, which incorporated a painting studio. Thus seeped in the beautiful Devon countryside she was able to develop her ideas about landscape painting with a series of works encapsulating the changing light over the River Dart. The paintings were done on very large canvases with thin oil paint, rather like a watercolour.
Lizzie worked as an archaeological illustrator for many years, where she developed a fascination with pattern in landscape. This involved surveying and drawing ancient field systems, ridge and furrow, barrows and walls.
Working on the repair of traditional old buildings involved the consolidation of the friable ancient surfaces. Old buildings need to be repaired by using limewash paint. Limewash is a beautiful paint. It catches and reflects light with a softness and subtlety that is unique. Earth Pigments, such as yellow and red ochres bring warmth to this captured light. Lizzie makes her own paint, which she uses to create art.
At present her work combines all these facets.
