"...My interest in words and image is reflected in my oil paintings"
Jan Dagley - Painting & Prints
I am a painter and printmaker. My work explores boundaries. The boundaries between word and image. The boundaries between representation and abstraction. The boundaries between poetry and the visual arts and, in practical terms, the boundaries between painting and printmaking.
Having recently returned to the Isle of Purbeck, the body of work entitled ‘Suspended Moments’ represents a new beginning for me. The work is inspired initially by the Japanese haiku where the experience expressed is a single isolated one; it is self-contained. These isolated experiences or memories combine together to make us what we are. Consequently, while each of my images is self-contained in its own right, it also forms part of the larger body of work which works as one entity.
My interest in words and image is also reflected in my oil paintings which also respond to poetry while, inevitably, also being influenced by the local environment.
