Heather Gibbons - Painting
Initially trained in printmaking at Bournemouth Art College, Heather returned later to the Arts Institute to complete a fine art diploma course, since when she has concentrated mainly on using oils as the main medium for producing her own work inspired by the evocative Purbeck coastline and land shapes.
"Working with oils has provided me with a certain freedom to "use" the paint as I want - making changes, taking visual risks as the work evolves. From initial drawings made on site, I will often "re-invent" the landscape, taking particular shapes from memory to fuse with aspects of reality...this to me is part of the journey of discovery."
Still-life objects have recently been included as subject matter which may convert to land forms - the relationship between the man-made and nature may often be close.
