Jurassic Coast Art
Artist Collective

We are an artist collective based in Dorset. Our website offers original and inspiring art for sale direct from the artist, commission and middleman free!

The Jurassic Coast and landscape of Purbeck are a powerful source of inspiration for us...

A World Heritage coastline rich in geological drama, wide sandy beaches and secluded coves, unspoilt heaths and valleys, wild nature reserves, ancient forts and settlements... iconic landmarks: the arch at Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove nearby, ruined but romantic Corfe Castle, the sandy expanse of Studland...

As Jurassic Coast artists we are all aware of of how fortunate we are to be living and working in these inspiring surroundings. The landscape around us encourages a strong creative response and its influence can be seen in much of our work.

We hope that the art featured on our website will help others appreciate and share in our inspiration. All Purbeck Collective artists have work for sale, if you are interested please use the artist's contact details to get in touch with them.

Our aims

The Purbeck Collective exists to help its member artists reach a wider audience. By pooling resources we can present ourselves more efficiently as well as offering an online shop window for all our participating artists.

In addition we hope to feed back into our community: supporting local art projects, involving children and students, and helping more people find satisfaction and fulfillment through art. We feel that creative expression is very important both for individual and community development.

Unfortunately arts funding in Purbeck has been long neglected and not likely to improve, so anything we can do to improve this situation will be a positive and important step.

How we work

We are a voluntary, democratic and independent organisation, run for the members' benefit and not for the profit of any individual. Our membership is currently limited to about 25 for logistical reasons (this may change in the future), with prospective artists being voted in by current members.

We try to make all decisions based on majority voting, and, notwithstanding our membership limit, we try to run our organisation by following established co-operative principles.

Buying original art from the collective

All sales are handled directly by the artist themselves, no commission is involved so all your money goes straight to the seller. Information on buying art - click here to find out more.

Joining the Collective

If you are an artist working and living in Purbeck and looking to become a member please use the contact from opposite. There is a once-only £20 fee for setting up your page, we each contribute about £10 every 2 months for marketing, and we ask that all members be active in promoting the Collective in whichever way is relevant (blogging, articles, reasearch etc.). All new admissions are decided by group vote.

Our commitment

We are committed to offering the best service we can both to our artists and to public users of our web site. We take seriously our commitment to quality and integrity of service. If you need to discuss our service for any reason we are committed to listening carefully and trying to resolve any issues.
